Daily reading
How does VerseFirst work?
VerseFirst is a feed of Bible verses. You see one verse per screen and swipe up for the next.
There are 336 verses in 14 themes: the Word, who Jesus is, salvation, prayer, words of Jesus, faith, forgiveness, God's promises, peace, love, wisdom, strength, gratitude and hope. You do not pick the themes: they are a path. You start with the Word, and the rest open as you read and memorize.
VerseFirst has four tabs. Read is the feed, which mixes the themes you have opened. Themes shows your path. Memorize lists the verses you are memorizing and the ones you have memorized. Saved lists the verses you bookmarked. You can share any verse.
You choose a goal of 3, 5, 10 or 15 verses a day. When you complete it, your streak of days in a row continues.
Why didn't a verse count?
- You swiped too fast. A verse counts once it has stayed on screen long enough to read it: between 4 and 12 seconds, depending on its length.
- You had already read it today. The same verse counts once per day.
How do I change my daily goal?
Go to VerseFirst, Settings, Daily reading. There you can change your goal to 3, 5, 10 or 15 verses a day.
I don't get the reminder.
- Check that notifications are allowed: iOS Settings, Notifications, VerseFirst.
- Check the reminder time in VerseFirst, Settings. VerseFirst sends one reminder a day, at 8:00 unless you change it.
- If you already completed today's reading, VerseFirst skips the reminder that day.
- Focus modes can silence the reminder. Allow VerseFirst in the Focus you use.
Memorizing
How does memorizing work?
On any verse, swipe left or tap Memorize. VerseFirst takes you through four exercises, from easy to hard:
- Fill in the blanks, choosing among 3 options.
- More blanks, choosing among 4 options.
- Put the shuffled pieces of the verse in order.
- Type the first letter of every word, with nothing on screen.
When you finish the fourth exercise, the verse is memorized.
Can I stop halfway and continue another day? How do I review?
Yes. You can leave at any point and VerseFirst remembers the exercise you were on.
The Memorize tab lists the verses in progress and the ones you have memorized. Tap a verse in progress to continue it. Tap a memorized verse to review it.
Themes and your path
How do themes open?
You start with one open theme, the Word. To open more, do two things in an open theme: read half of its verses (12 of 24) and memorize one of its verses. Then more themes open: four after the first one, and two after each one that follows.
The Read tab mixes only the themes you have opened. The Themes tab shows the whole path, with the themes that are still locked.
Why is a theme locked?
Because you have not opened it yet. Themes cannot be chosen or unlocked by hand, and a subscription does not skip the path: they open by reading and memorizing.
If you expected a theme to open, check the two steps in a theme you already have: you need 12 of its 24 verses read and one of its verses memorized, with all four exercises done. A verse only counts as read once it has stayed on screen long enough to read it.
Locking apps until you read
How does the lock work?
The lock is optional. You turn it on in VerseFirst, Settings, Screen Time. It uses Apple's Screen Time.
Every day, from the time you choose (5:00 unless you change it), all your apps are locked until you complete your daily reading. It resets at midnight. You can choose apps that are never locked. Calls and emergencies always work.
Without an active subscription, nothing is ever locked. VerseFirst cannot see which apps you have or use.
My apps are locked and I need them now.
Open VerseFirst and read today's verses. Everything unlocks when you complete your daily reading. You can also turn the lock off in VerseFirst, Settings, Screen Time.
VerseFirst itself is locked.
Add VerseFirst to "Apps that are never locked" in VerseFirst, Settings, Screen Time. Then let us know at contacto@distomosmakhaira.com so we can fix it.
iCloud and your devices
My streak, my path or my saved verses don't appear on my other device.
- Use the same Apple ID on both, with iCloud on: iOS Settings, your name, iCloud.
- Keep the devices online for a few minutes. The first sync can take a while.
I changed phones. Will I lose my streak, my path and my saved verses?
No, as long as iCloud is on. Your saved verses, your reading history, the verses you have read, your memorization progress and your settings live in your private iCloud. Sign in with the same Apple ID on the new iPhone and they come back, with the same themes open.
The Bible text
Which Bible translation does VerseFirst use, and why?
In English, VerseFirst uses the World English Bible. In Spanish, it uses the Reina-Valera 1909, with updated accentuation. We chose them because both are in the public domain.
Subscription
What does the subscription include?
Everything. VerseFirst has a single plan, monthly or yearly. It includes the feed of verses, the path through the 14 themes, the memorization exercises, your daily reading and your streak, your saved verses, your apps locked until you read if you want, and widgets for the Home Screen and the Lock Screen with the verse of the day and today's reading progress. It starts with a free trial.
Will VerseFirst tell me before my free trial ends?
Yes. VerseFirst sends a notification 2 days before your free trial ends, so you can cancel in time if you do not want to continue.
It only arrives if notifications are allowed: iOS Settings, Notifications, VerseFirst. If fewer than 2 days of trial are left when VerseFirst schedules it, it is not sent. You can always see the date your trial ends in iOS Settings, your name, Subscriptions.
How do I cancel?
iOS Settings, your name, Subscriptions, VerseFirst. If you cancel before the free trial ends, you are not charged. You keep your subscription until the end of the period you paid for.
I paid but VerseFirst still asks me to subscribe.
On the subscription screen, tap Restore purchases with the same Apple ID you subscribed with. If it still does not work, write to us with your Support ID.
How do I ask for a refund?
Apple handles payments and refunds: go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID.

¿Puedo dejarlo a medias y seguir otro día?
He cambiado de móvil. ¿Pierdo mi racha, mi camino y mis versículos guardados?
