VerseFirst Privacy Policy

VerseFirst: Bible Discipline, for iPhone. Last updated: October 25, 2026.

In short
  • VerseFirst has no accounts and no sign-up.
  • Your saved verses, your reading history, the verses you have read, your memorization progress and your settings are stored on your iPhone and in your private iCloud. We cannot read them.
  • VerseFirst has no notes and no text fields. There is no text of yours to collect.
  • RevenueCat manages your subscription with an anonymous identifier.
  • Only if you agree, we measure which ad brought you and whether you use the app, with our measurement and advertising partners. We never share which verses or themes you read, save or memorize.
  • We do not sell your data.

1. Who is responsible

The data controller is Jose David Vázquez, the developer of VerseFirst. For any privacy question, write to contacto@distomosmakhaira.com.

2. The data you create in VerseFirst

VerseFirst stores this data on your iPhone and, if iCloud is on, in the private database of your iCloud account, to sync it across your devices:

That database is yours: Apple manages it with your Apple ID and we have no access to it. Apple processes it under its own privacy policy.

The verses you have read and your memorization progress are what open new themes on your path. They sync through your private iCloud so you do not lose your path when you change phones. We never receive them.

VerseFirst has no text written by you: there are no notes and no fields to fill in. In one memorization exercise you type the first letter of each word. Those letters are checked on your iPhone and are not saved.

The reading reminder and the notice that your free trial ends in 2 days are local notifications: your own iPhone schedules them, without going through any server of ours.

3. Locking apps with Screen Time

If you turn on "Lock apps until you read", VerseFirst uses Apple's Screen Time features (Family Controls). Your choice of apps that are never locked, and the lock itself, stay on your iPhone. iOS only gives VerseFirst opaque identifiers: VerseFirst cannot see which apps you have or how much you use them, and sends none of this anywhere.

So that it never locks your apps in the middle of a call or while you drive, the lock checks two things on your iPhone at the moment it would start: whether there is a call in progress (through Apple's CallKit, which also covers apps such as WhatsApp or FaceTime) and, if you allow Motion & Fitness, whether the iPhone is in a car (Apple's Core Motion). VerseFirst only reads "call yes or no" and "in a car yes or no" at that moment: it does not see who you call, where you are or where you go, keeps none of it, and sends none of it anywhere. If you don't allow Motion & Fitness, the lock works the same, only without the driving check.

4. Subscription (RevenueCat)

Apple charges the subscription; we do not see your name, Apple ID or payment details. To know whether your subscription is active we use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA), which processes an anonymous identifier created by the app, your VerseFirst purchase history (product, dates, price, trial period, renewals and cancellations), your store country and technical device and app data (model, OS version, language). RevenueCat also stores, as an attribute of that anonymous identifier, the name of the introduction version your install was given (see below).

Anonymous analytics. To improve the app we anonymously count how it is used: which introduction steps are completed, how many verses are read, how many memorization exercises are done, when new themes open and which screens are opened. We do this with PostHog (PostHog, Inc.), on its European Union servers. We do not build a profile of you: there is only a random installation identifier, not tied to your name, Apple ID or email. We never send which verses or themes you read, save or memorize: only counts and milestones. You can turn it off at any time in VerseFirst, Settings, "Improve VerseFirst".

Two details about the introduction. VerseFirst has three versions of it and gives each install one at random. The name of your version is attached to these anonymous events and stored as an attribute in RevenueCat, so we can compare the three. One of the versions asks how many hours a day you spend on your phone. Your answer is sent to the analytics only as a broad range: under 2, 2 to 4, 4 to 6, or over 6 hours.

The legal basis is the performance of the subscription contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). If you accepted ad measurement, RevenueCat also receives the AppsFlyer identifier, so purchases can be attributed to the campaign you came from (see section 5).

5. Ad measurement (only with your consent)

VerseFirst is promoted with ads, for example on Meta (Facebook, Instagram) and TikTok. To know which ads work, and only if you allow it when iOS asks whether VerseFirst may track you, we use AppsFlyer (AppsFlyer Ltd., Israel, and its affiliates) as our measurement provider.

What is shared

With whom

AppsFlyer uses this data to attribute your install and purchases to a campaign, and shares it, as needed for that attribution and to optimize ads, with the platforms where we advertise VerseFirst (Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. and TikTok Technology Ltd., among others). Each of them also processes it under its own privacy policy.

Legal basis and how to withdraw

The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time in VerseFirst, Settings, Ads, or in iOS Settings, Privacy & Security, Tracking. If you do not allow it, nothing is shared with AppsFlyer and VerseFirst works exactly the same.

SKAdNetwork

Even if you do not accept, iOS may tell ad networks and AppsFlyer, in aggregate and without identifying you, that an install came from a campaign (Apple's SKAdNetwork). Apple runs this mechanism and it does not let us know who you are.

6. Providers at a glance

7. Transfers outside the European Economic Area

Some providers process data outside the EEA, for example in the United States or Israel. They do so with the safeguards required by the GDPR: European Commission adequacy decisions (such as the one for Israel, or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for certified companies) or standard contractual clauses.

8. How long data is kept

9. Your rights

You can request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability or objection, and withdraw your consent at any time, by writing to contacto@distomosmakhaira.com. Since VerseFirst has no accounts, include the Support ID shown in VerseFirst, Settings, near the end of the list: it lets us find your subscription and measurement data.

If you believe we have not handled your request properly, you can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (aepd.es) or the data protection authority of your country.

10. Children

VerseFirst is not directed to children under 14. If you are under that age, do not accept ad measurement without permission from a parent or guardian.

11. Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If the change affects your consent to ad measurement, VerseFirst will ask you again.

12. Scripture

Scripture quotations in English are from the World English Bible, which is in the public domain. "World English Bible" is a trademark of eBible.org.

Scripture quotations in Spanish are from the Reina-Valera 1909, which is in the public domain. The accentuation has been updated.

Nosotros no podemos leerlos.
  • No vendemos tus datos.
